The Queens Chapter of the New York State
Society of Professional Engineers, Inc. (NYSSPE) is a non-profit organization
devoted to the promotion of the engineering profession. We are the local chapter
of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) serving the Queens
borough of New York City. We hold monthly meetings from September through
June which include informative talks and facility tours. |

Our lecture will be presented by Carlos Lopez-Ona, Alex Moshenberg or Dennis Italia of Metro Building Solutions, Inc.
The purpose of this 1-Hr. presentation is to provide guidance on the major types of waterproofing systems with info on which systems are the best options for a variety of waterproofing applications. Upon completion of the presentation participants should be able to understand the description and nomenclatures of:
Review & understand the differences between blindside, positive- side, and negative-side waterproofing.
Discuss the different types of waterproofing systems available in the industry along with their respective application procedures.
Understand the physical properties of various waterproofing systems.
Review the advantages and disadvantages of these systems along with the criteria that may be helpful in selecting the best system for a particular application.

Engineering Marvels in Queens
Designed by Gilmore D. Clarke, the Unisphere was engineered, fabricated, and donated to the fair by the United States Steel Corporation (USS). Its components were manufactured by the company's American Bridge Division at Ambridge and Harrisburg, Pa., and assembled at the World's Fair site.

Chapter Meeting
Our meetings are held at Fort Totten, typically on the fourth Thursday of the month. The meetings start at 6:30 PM and are catered by our sponsors.
There is a continuing education seminar given at every meeting. The cost is $25 for our NSPE members, free for students and $35 to non-members.
