Queens Chapter NYSSPE

The Queens Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers, Inc. (NYSSPE) is a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion of the engineering profession. We are the local chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) serving the Queens borough of New York City. We hold monthly meetings from September through June which include informative talks and facility tours.

Meeting Lecture: Beyond Performance: Assessing the Sustainability of Windows

Presented by Ken Barry, Marvin Windows

Ken Barry is an Architectural Consultant with Super Enterprises - USA, Inc. Barry will examine factors besides U-values which need to be considered when specifying windows. Sustainability concepts such as embodied energy, carbon footprint, and life cycle are explained relative to fenestration products. The environment impacts of wood and clad wood, aluminum, fiberglass, and vinyl will also be compared.

Chapter Meeting

Our meetings are held at Fort Totten, typically on the fourth Thursday of the month. The meetings start at 6:30 PM and are catered by our sponsors. There is a continuing education seminar given at every meeting. The cost is $15 for our NSPE members and $25 to non-members.

Unisphere Construction

Designed by Gilmore D. Clarke, the Unisphere was engineered, fabricated, and donated to the fair by the United States Steel Corporation (USS). Its components were manufactured by the company's American Bridge Division at Ambridge and Harrisburg, Pa., and assembled at the World's Fair site.
